the LA Times is the most visible face of a very big trend. newspapers may be on their way out, or are being heavily 'localized' i.e. catering to local /regional news like town hall meetings, PTA association dinners etc.
while TV, the Internet and news syndication sites like google news have been denting things - the revenue side has really been hurt by lack of classified adverts. sadly this is not the immediate future of the scatological Indian press where Internet penetration is still low.
