This sounds like land grabbing, especially for private projects where the government is also involved.

Their ancient religion, which is related to Zoroastrianism, predates Christianity and Islam but many traditional and radical Muslims dismiss the Yezidis as devil-worshippers. Dubai Down the Drain

Dubai is now having to renegotiate its debt scheduling, because it can't meet its debt obligations. Everyone has been bailing out of that country, causing its economy to plunge even further. This is what happens when you don't invest in newcomers to give them a reason to stay. None of the skilled workers was really able to settle there, and thus with no ties or roots sunk down, departure was always only a plane ticket away.

While they were building their tower of babel, the ground was being eroded from underneath their feet.

The Mind of the Arabic Speaker

Here's an interesting finding from a study of brains of Arabic speakers - their literary language is treated as a second language compared to the regular common vernacular language. I think that shows the contrast of a higher literary intellectual expression existing very separately from a more primitive language base. I guess that's consistent with the fact of so many who have adopted Middle Eastern culture have a strong tendency toward being animalistic morons.

Collapsing Dubai

Dubai's economic boom is collapsing very rapidly and unceremoniously. Without neighboring oil wealth, they don't have anything to hold them up. Looks like all those much-vaunted skyscrapers and theme parks may end up as half-built ghost towns. So much for their dreams of being the Switzerland of the Middle East -- they're looking more like Iceland instead. Where will D-Company hide now?

But it also goes to show that a country that shows no loyalty to its workers will be shown no loyalty by them. UAE with its slave-labour practices and its ridiculously disproportionate migrant labour force living under constant threat of being tossed out as soon as they lose their jobs, is now seeing the other side of the coin. When the country suffers downturn, then everybody vanishes, leaving the elite "true citizenry" holding the bag.

The "secular progressive" brigade raised hell on the Rizwanur suicide case. LOL. After miserably failing to prove the Todi family's involvement in the suicide, they started bleating that they "encouraged" his suicide!! In this case, an Arab Muslim girl from Bahrain married a Hindu man from Bangalore and adopted Hinduism. Good for her. After nearly two decades and two children, she had per passport revoked by consular officials of the "progressive and liberal emirate" of Bahrain with an accompanying reprimand for her apostasy. Is there any other self respecting country on this planet that tolerates such blatant transgressions on its sovereign soil?
