Annie George repeated earlier testimony that she didn't know
Valsamma Mathai was in the United States illegally and that she didn't mistreat her during the 5{ years she worked in her New York state home.

Suryanelli rape case: No basis to reinvestigate PJ Kurien, says Kerala court

Idukki, Kerala: A plea by a woman abducted and raped by 42 men in 1996 that Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairperson
PJ Kurien was one of her assaulters and should be made an accused was rejected by a Kerala court today.

Mr Kurien, a Congress politician, was exonerated by the Supreme Court in 2007 in the Suryanelli case, which gets its name from the place in Kerala the woman belongs to. She filed the petition against him last month.

The court said today that in light of state Director General of Prosecution T Asif Ali's report, there was no basis for a reinvestigation against Mr Kurien.

The woman, who was 16 when abused, is likely to challenge the verdict in the Kerala High Court. She had last month also approached the police to file a case against Mr Kurien but it was turned down.

In 2005, the Kerala High Court tried 35 men in the case and convicted only one - a lawyer named Dharmarajan. This January, the Supreme Court set aside the verdict and ordered a re-trial within six months.

Since then, there has been a clamour by the opposition in Congress-ruled Kerala and at the Centre for Mr Kurien's resignation. The 72-year-old leader has refused to step down, saying he was cleared by the Supreme Court. The union government has also defended Mr Kurien, telling Parliament that three separate police investigations had cleared him.

A woman inspector Sujata Patil, attached with Matunga traffic police, called last year's Azad Maidan protesters as "snakes" and "traitors" in her poem and suggested that their hands should have been "chopped off". TOI was first to report the news. In her poem, captioned Azad Maidan, she wrote: "Hausla buland tha, izzat lut rahi thi...himmat ki gaddaron ne Amar Jyoti ko haath lagane ki, kaat dete haath unke toh faryad kisi ki bhi na hoti...Saanp ko doodh pila kar, baat kare hain hum bhai-chare ki. Home minister: Need to rethink death penalty

The bleeding heart "human rights" brigade has commenced its violent ritual of breast beating
to the accompaniment of loud wailing by the likes of Burka Dutt et al. Their tender sentiments of "Insaniyat"
(humanity - insanity?) injured by the execution of 26/11 terrorist
Ajmal Kasab.

The lives of 166 Indian citizens, according to official figures - counts for nothing. The life of the single terrorist awarded capital punishment is apparently invaluable to these loonies, who are now trying to cajole the all too willing UPA regime - to abolish capital punishment.

Mr. Shinde's perverted philosophy has only one goal, i.e. to secure the life of Mohd. Afzal Guru, the deathrow convict in the 2001Parliament Jihad attack.

Just one question: What took so long? I'm actually surprised that the wailing and breast beating took so many days to commence - after Kasab's hanging.

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said on Sunday that the government needs to “rethink” its policy on capital punishment.
Speaking at the Idea Exchange programme organised by Loksatta, the Marathi newspaper of The Indian Express Group, Shinde said: “We need to rethink. We (the government and Rashtrapati Bhavan) received a representation from 13-14 eminent Indian persons yesterday demanding a ban on death penalty. There should not be cruelty. They said these convicts (should) be made to serve in jail and need not be released on parole.”

Shinde’s statement comes just days after 26/11 terror attack convict Ajmal Amir Kasab was hanged.
