Pakistan has now freed A Q Khan, the head of Pakistan's nuclear program who proliferated vital nuclear technology to Iran and North Korea.
I think that Pakistan has done this in order to ratchet up the pressure on its Western donors, and to signal that it might be willing to play the nuclear proliferation card, if they back it into a corner. Perhaps some of the Pakistani establishment don't like the latest announcement of a UN probe into Benazir Bhutto's assassination, and are freeing Khan as a response.
