Rajeev,

US might want to cap, rollback and eliminate but will
they erase cold war mindset and actually help India.

They are facing a resurgent China! and have a reason
to feel insecure...

Nice one. Now the Kashmiris are crying that they have not got aid. Maybe they should ask AID for aid. Sandeep pandey surely would help , wouldnt he. After all he is a secular liberal. He wont mind helping fellow terrorists.

I wonder how shameless kashmiris can get. After all this we have done, (pakistan has been reduced to an international beggar), after our army facing bullets for helping them, we get to hear this. Why dont we let the bastards die, rather than help them and get bitten in return.

I think the deadliest cobras have more sense of loyalty and gratitude than these people

The Kashmiris are thoroughy alienated. They will , at the most, tolerate Idia but never be patriots. The only solution to Kashmir problem is to settle hardy Hindu and Sikh castes, armed with weapons, in the valley and especially near the LOC. This Gaza style solution also needs to be done in the North East. But this requires abolition of Art 370 and we will probably need solid backing of the US for such a step.

Well, we have them, hardy soldiers out there, regardless of caste, and beating the crap out of those Pakis. First of all , the law that prohibits people from outside the state to settle in the state must be abolished. Article 370 is now outdated. I suppose, they will protest, cry , breast-beat and turn to violence, as always, so does not make much of a difference. ( I find it funny , kashmiri old women breastbeating on the TV after the earthquake, and shouting anti-India slogans. Come on, man, what have we got to do with the earthquake. Call me insensitive if you want, but I dont care about kashmiris ).

IMHO, the only solution is to abolish 370, and treat it at par with other states. If they dont like it, and matters really go out of hand, they can choose to cross over the LOC. Anyway, whats the use of opening up the LoC otherwise ;)

I read that asian times article. Very strange.
Can anyone tell me following.
1. Why cant we run nuclear power generators on plutonium, which India is supposed to have. Only Tarapur and Kota run on uranium, I think. We can depend on that US deal only for these two generators. Also we can source uranium for them from Russia and China, and more importantly , France(has been more cooperative than other nuke powers) (the dragon is concerned with money, it really doesnt bother).
2. Dont we have thorium based fast breeder reactors. http://in.rediff.com/news/2005/aug/25nuke.htm
It is in the experimental stage , it seems, but I think we can pull it off, and in turn get fissile U233 for fuel.
I somehow think, that Plutonium is a much better material for weapon as well as power generation(if it can be used there, it lends itself easier to reprocessing). I think we must concentrate more on plutonium and thorium rather than fissile U-235. By the way, is it P-240 or P-242.
3. How mature is our fast breeder generator program. I think the Chennai reactors are doing fine. What exactly are advantages of fast breeder techs. One I know is that it can use spent fuel and give fissile material back, over again and produce plutonium as byproduct. Am I right.

As per article, we have a good deterrent in place, though not the delivery systems.
We should be concentrating more on solar power and fuel cells. (Imagine solar power used by photocells to electrolyze water, gives hydrogen fuel, to be used in fuel cells, give back electricity). Wind power is erratic, it can only be used for recharging backup systems like invertors, at most.
What about biodiesel and more specially , firewood farming. I mean, you grow forests of firewood trees. I mean you can use charcoal for power plants. It did seem funny to me too, when I thought about it first, but there is no other alternative. Of course, you have to keep planting 20 times the amount you cut down now.

I earlier said,

-----------
Hydrogen as a fuel is very difficult to handle. I suppose it can be mixed with some other gases, to reduce its explosive nature. Also, fuel cells ( use hydrogen reactions with oxygen, in water, to produce electricity, rather than current alkaline /NiMH/NiCad/Lead Acid/ Zinc Chloride chemistries. )
So hydrogen is not actually burnt as a fuel, but it reacts in a cell with oxygen, and gives current.

I guess we can have fossil fuels and our sufficient coal reserves as backups. We have some time, so India can now start pilot projects to explore these avenues.

I just recalled, it is P-238, and we have P-239 for fissile material, I am forgetting my sciences. :)

Please someone answer this.. I am just plain curious about this whole nuke power thing.

DarkStorm, I am your brother-in-arms. Have you checked Bharat-Rakshak.com. There guys like you and me do a lot of hair-splitting with regard to Indian National interests. Check out their forums, esp. the thread for Nuke related stuff. You could also be a member of that site and pose intelligent, humble questions. Abominations like mitra get promptly kicked out of their forum.
