"...gave us the negative reputation for conducting foreign policy as a sort of moralistic running commentary on other people's behaviour."
Wow, Tharoor finally said something that is true even if only half a sentence. That is a good comment. Moralistic running commentary on other people's behavior indeed!
Somebody is really interested in getting Tharoor out of his ministry position.
The consistent manner in which controversies are being raked up, on really innocuous or insignificant remarks of Tharoor, means deliberate efforts are on.
Comparatively, the positively big blunders made by the likes of Rahul, the prince-in-waiting, in formal public forums are carefully covered up.
Going by the way the media is being controlled in the matter of Tharoor, it has to be an experienced political hand behind this. There is quite a good chance that such eminence also has support from Tharoor's homestate mates some of whom may have been unprepared to see Tharoor, a novice, winning overwhelmingly in election and getting a ministry position.
It may be a short path for Tharoor to oblivion.
Shashi, absolutely you are dot on Nehru's "preachy prattle" on foreign policy.Worst,he let loose Krishna Menon in the UN on moral haranging soap-box oratory.I used to belive,non-aligned policy was a realpolitic subterfuge in playing hard-to-get between power-blocks to get AID from both. But, sadly, it became article of faith:and it persists even to-day.Sad!But give it to Nehru when confronted when deserted by his" Bandung Friends" in '62 -crisis'he did realise the abysmal error in wandering off from realpolitic of international affairs.Alas, tragically, he died of shock before he could correct his ways, when he promised to himself"I have miless to go before I sleep"He went to "woods dark & deep"prematuarly.
