A couple of desi guys have invented a new TV-display technology which could outperform all the others, especially on bigger screens. Their company Prysm has developed Laser Phosphor Display (LPD), which promises to save on electricity usage, while ultimately being cheaper to manufacture as well.
It's possible that LPD could eventually muscle out LCD, but the proof will be in the actual viewing, of course. These guys have yet to get a product out, and say they will be starting with jumbo-sized commercial displays first, which is where they hope to achieve the biggest savings.
