Dear Friends
I am sure all of you must be aware of a Tamil Hindu woman (who was converted and registered as a Muslim - without her knowledge - during her childhood) in Malaysia is now fighting with the Malaysian authorities for religious freedom, in order to live as a Hindu with her Hindu husband and two children.

www.tamilhindu.com has floated an online petition addressed to the Prime Minister of Malaysia as follows: -

To:  Prime Minister of Malaysia

Bangaramma (27) a Malaysian citizen, was registered in a Government children home as a Muslim when she was a minor and she was barely aware of it. However throughout her life she has been a Hindu and eight years ago she married a Hindu in a Hindu temple. Now the government of Malaysia is refusing to register her marriage and also refusing to acknowledge the fatherhood of her husband to their children.

Now Bangaramma is threatened with the charge of apostasy which in the Islamic state of Malaysia means she would be forcefully separated from her children (aged 2 and 7) and her husband and she would be subjected to immense psychological tortures.

Hence we the undersigned request His Excellency the Prime Minister of Malaysia, His Excellency the Prime Minister of India and Her Excellency the President of India to intervene and restore the right of Bangaramma to live as a Hindu, recognize her wedding which took place according to ancient Vedic rites and the right of the couple to bring up their children in Hindu tradition.

We also request the humanity at large to register their support for Bangaramma in the Malaysian diplomatic missions in your respective states.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

Your Excellency,

Sub: Request to allow Bangaramma to live as a Hindu

I recently read the news about Bangaramma, a 27 year old Tamil Hindu woman, who being converted unethically to Islam when she was a child, is now fighting for her right to live as a Hindu. She is also the wife of a Hindu husband and mother of two children. As a Hindu and as a Tamil I am pained to see her agony in her battle for her right to live as a Hindu. As Hindus we value the innate spirituality of all religions and at the same time all we ask is our right to live and practice our age old traditions which is one of the oldest and richest spiritual traditions in the history of humanity.

Being forced to lose that tradition is a traumatic event for a Hindu and almost a soul-death for a Hindu mother. Hence we request you to understand the feelings and sentiments of Hindus and ensure that Bangaramma is allowed to practice her ancestral faith and allow the children of this Hindu couple to be registered as Hindus in the government records.

I thank your excellency for your time and patience,

Yours truly,
