Quite simply, music runs in her blood Granddaughter of the legendary Carnatic vocalist D.K. Pattammal and the legendary Mridangam maestro Palghat Mani Iyer, Nithyasree has lived up to the musical vein in the family by becoming a household name in the world of Carnatic Music. Her melodic yet powerful voice and wonderful grasp over the nuances of Classical music have made her a much sought after performer. She has received numerous awards and titles, including the 'Yuva Kala Bharathi' by Bharat Kalachar in 1994, and 'Kalaimamani' from the Tamil Nadu Government. She became a household name once she entered playback singing, starting with a super hit in Shankar's Jeans (in AR Rehman's music) to the very recent 'Cheli Neneti' in Aayirathil Oruvan. Today, she is also one of A R Rehman's top favorites whenever it comes to a song with a tinge of classicism. Known as the Nightingale of South India, Nithyasree has performed in major sabhas all over India and has presented concerts in the USA, UK, Germany, France and Singapore among other countries.
