An interesting theory professed here . I am not too sure I buy the more populous your nation, the less happy you are theory. I am quite convinced that India, even in ancient times supported high population levels due to factors like the climate, abundant resources for food production , highly dispersed village-based communities etc. I feel that the education system in India is one that will inevitably lead to unhappiness. Swami Vivekananda summed it up We must have a hold on the spiritual and secular education of the nation. ... Till then there is no salvation for the race. The education that you are getting ... is not a man-making education, it is merely and entirely a negative education. A negative education or any training that is based on negation, is worse than death. The child is taken to school, and the first thing he learns is that his father is a fool, the second thing that his grandfather is a lunatic, the third thing that all his teachers are hypocrites, the fourth that all the sacred books are lies! By the time he is sixteen he is a mass of negation, lifeless and boneless.
He said this about missinoary-funded Anglo schools that produced the likes of this joker; and how true it still rings! I know a lot of people in India who have written off themselves and the nation due to lack of self-belief. If that does not lead to depression - what will?
All, A great special edition of the Organiser weekly again, this time about how the media treats Hindus and Hinduism. 1- Sandhya Jain again has a good one - specially referencing on what reader siva calls Jesus Freaks report (aka Freedom of Religions report put out by Foggy Bottom) - which I had analysed at length here
2- Swapan Dasgupta on how pretentions of being 'professional' actually blind the media. Burkha Dutt at NDTV is most representative of this tribe. I am in splits every time she gesticulates with her hands, places her finger on her temple, pulls a serious expression as if staring at an object in great concentration and then proceeds to ask really dumb questions to her communist guests - truly, hideous incompetence masquerading as 'professionalism'
3- Subramanian Swamy - for a comprehensive list of bad actors that goes beyond the media
4- Saeed Naqvi for the contrarian view. Naqvi is better than the Commies because his criticisms are somehow more founded in indian culture (not just Muslim Tehzeeb). I saw a program he did on Meo-Muslims many years back to prove that there is such a thing as a syncretic culture. However, he has really goofed up this time, specially his point that M.F Hussain paints nude Hindu godesses to protest lack of artistic freedom in the Islamic world! This is the cultural equivalent of the Mopla killings. Because we cannot get the Caliphate - we will kill Hindus!! Would not painting the prophet be a better way to protest?
PM Manmohan Singh shows his true colours. Here is a clip from what he said "any democratic Government of India would find it difficult to continue on the present path of addressing all outstanding issues unless the Government of Pakistan clearly deal with the issue of terrorism." Essentially, he seems to be saying that he would have given in to Pakistan wishes but for the democratic set-up!!
