India's netting better jobs. Better to keep moving upmarket, where there's greater profitability and more value for the marketplace. When will we see an Indian Lexus, or an Indian Airbus, or an Indian Rolex? It's only a matter of time.
great post, san. this is the sort of thing that is fueling the growth in services. elsewhere, i read a forbes story gushing about the tata 1-lakh car. so it's engineering, design, R&D and financial services -- all high-value-added services -- that will help india go forward. joel kotkin, a los angeles sociologist, once told me "engineering is the oil of the 21st century". he meant that as oil-digging countries had prospered in the 20th, number-crunching countries would in the 21st.
