In the meantime, can someone advise on what can be done regarding spam mail from muslim india.net on mine and many other rediffmail ID's? Rediff.com's 'block sender' does not seem to work and nor does writing directly to rediffmail.com have any effect in getting rid of this nuisance.

In the rural areas surrounding Nagpur (Mah.) a festival called "Maskara Ganpati" is celebrated every year after the Ganesh Chaturthi. During the festival villagers create Ganesh idols showing Ganpati in various forms - like for instance smoking a fag or wearing gogles or wearing suit/tie etc.
This is a one day celebration where people of the village dance and merry and make fun of Ganesha so to say.
But all is taken in great spirits and there's no vulguraity associated with that as far as i know.

Just the controversy surrounding those cartoons and Danish newspapers reminded me of that festival.

I guess it's Hindus way of saying - Before you guys poke fun- we take it on ourselves to come up with better fun. :-)
