One thing disconcerting about the whole Tata business is its poor succession planning. American big shot conglomerates such as GE begin identifying potential successors years in advance, and groom them accordingly for the big roles, making leadership transitions very smooth. Tata, being one of India's flagship corporations, should really follow in these footsteps for the sake of the company and the country.
