here's a (slightly retouched, i think) image of macchu picchu, in the peruvian andes. this is one of a handful of places i have wanted to go to before tourists (or semitic types) trash them, for instance see what's being done to the divine temples of cambodia by tourists after the semitic communists damaged them significantly. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/05/AR2007020501380.html.
to me these ancient centers of native religion are places of great spiritual power: others include ayer's rock in australia. in contrast to these, i find christist pilgrim centers to be hollow and mercenary (remember the great story about the 'beatified kochappi'?).
now if you just flip this image by 90 degrees, here's what you get. interesting, isn't it? i must confess though that i am not a major fan of erik von daniken's theories of extraterrestrial visitors doing these things. although there are indeed fairly dramatic unexplained things for which the (occam's razor) simplest explanation would be that they were meant for viewing from the air: the giant drawings in nazca, also in peru.
there's a big rock near nagercoil in the western ghats that similarly reminds me of an old man's face, mouth open in a cry of despair. 'old man mountain', i call it.
