Book on Ramanujan called "The Indian Clerk"!

sept 9, 2007

Hello Rajeev,
Please take a look at this news item:

http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/sep/03inter.htm
This rather presumptuously titled book would be something to watch
for. "The Indian Clerk"? Would someone dare to write a book about John
Nash and call it "The Maniac Mathematician" or something? It would be
particularly interesting to see how Hardy is portrayed in this book
and whether the author derides Ramanujan for being inspired by a
goddess.

Thanks,
Soniya

dear rajeev and sonia

i do have come across instances of einstein being referred to as a "patent clerk" .. may be not a book.. but in my university courses, and instances like
http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa006&articleID=0007DCB9-91CE-111A-BAF583414B7F4945

so I think more than the title, we have to watch out for the content.. if the title is in the sense of "even an indian clerk is so brilliant", then its fine right ? :-) .. may be i am being too optimistic... admit that i haven't read the interview yet
