laloo prasad yadav is now india's number 1 management guru! move over, ratan tata and mukesh ambani!
however, the on-ground reality is slightly different. see for example, the allocation of trains, which is very much affected by non-market forces.
an excellent example is the bangalore - trivandrum route vs. the chennai - trivandrum route. both have comparable demand (high).
on the chennai - trivandrum route there are three daily express trains and a fourth was added recently. there is also one from alleppey to chennai. plenty of supply of seats.
on the bangalore - trivandrum route there is exactly one (the execrable island express which takes 17 hours to traverse a 12-hour route), which is hugely wait-listed and always full.
why? bus operators are doing a roaring business on the bangalore - kerala route, that's why. and we can't, of course, look at the interest of the common traveling man, can we? we have to have the bus operators maintaining their monopoly profits, don't we? especially since there is an 'understanding' between them and us?
why isn't harvard and the iims writing cases on e sridharan and the konkan railway and the delhi metro? now that is a truly inspiring story. but no, e sridharan is a bad person because he will quote the gita as his management manual.

E Sridharan, IMO, has done a yeoman's work and shouldn't the country show its gratitude by at least awarding him with Bharat-Ratna...when folks of lesser calibre have been awarded with it (read Rajeev Gandhi or M G Ramachandran)...
Sridharan...shouldn't be touched with a brage pole...he quotes Gita, which by default makes him a communalist...who cares if he has made life better for the ordinary folks...who struggle with a grinding life...no...he will not be talked about in praisng terms...till he stops quoting Gita...
