another instance of packing the deck with pliant, corrupt officials.
this thomas sounds exactly like navin chawla, ex-CEC, who was used to, ahem.... help with the 2009 elections, with results we all know of.
now this kerala christist, already accused in hanky-panky in kerala, is going to 'investigate' the 2g scam. yeah, right. especially when he has been telecom secretary and probably has been involved with a. raja in the scam.
the number of kerala christists (and also, alas, kerala hindus) in the center is a danger signal. i pointed out long ago that in an earlier era with a lot of kerala types (v k krishna menon, k n panikkar, m o mathai, involved, in 1962 we lost tibet. i predicted that with a lot of kerala types (m k narayan, a k anthony, tka nair, gk pillai, hormis tharakan) in the picture, we would lose nepal. which we have.
now with this thomas also in the picture, i suspect we'll also lose ladakh and arunachal pradesh. the correlation is amazing.
i tell you, keralites are a curse. i know, being one.

Opposition looks askance at new CVC

'Brought in to cover up 2G scam, CW Games mess'
Opposition BJP on Sunday objected to the appointment of PJ Thomas, Telecom Secretary, as the new Central Vigilance Commissioner, fearing the move was to cover up the 2G spectrum scam and alleged irregularities in the Commonwealth Games-related projects. Thomas would replace Pratush Sinha on Monday.
A day after Thomas's name was cleared for the top job, the BJP described the move as "sad and shocking" and "unacceptable" to the party. Party spokesman Tarun Vijay told reporter that the appointment was done in a "blatantly hastily" manner despite "suggestions and objections" by the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, who was also a member of the selection committee.
"The recent appointment of the Central Vigilance Commissioner in the blatantly hastily manner is the clear indication that the Government wants to cover up the 2G spectrum scam," Vijay said, adding, "And not only that immediately after the Commonwealth Games, all the financial irregularities that have been alleged will come to be inquired into by the CVC."
The Rajya Sabha member said the panel comprising Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Home Minister P Chidambaram besides Swaraj had proposed three names and the LoP in the Lok Sabha had suggested the committee to choose any one of the two names except Thomas, but "it was ignored".
Swaraj suggested the committee to enlarge and revise the list, saying there were "many more better names" outside the panel's suggestions which can now be included for "this very significant and important post", he said, adding that this suggestion was also ignored by the committee.
At the end, she asked to postpone the meeting for another day, suggesting them to do "more homework" and decide what could be the "best nomination" for the post, he said. "This was also ignored," Vijay said, adding, "What is the use of inviting or having the Leader of Opposition as a member of selection committee."
Vijay said that the only reason that Swaraj objected to Thomas's appointment was that "he had already been involved in palm oil scam in Kerala when K Karunakaran was the Chief Minister of the State".
He said his party is aware of the fact that Thomas's name was cleared in the case after inquiry, but for the post of CVC, a person who is completely blameless should be nominated. "It's really shocking and surprising that how the Government insisted on just one name, that is of Thomas, and ignored the suggestion and objection of the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj. Hence, she recorded her dissent," he said.
Vijay said that the CBI is probing the 2G spectrum scam, but it may come to the CVC at a later stage for it being the "boss of the CBI". He alleged that being the Telecom Secretary, Thomas has to defend A Raja, Minister of Telecommunications, and entire 2G spectrum scam.
"How will he probe the 2G spectrum scam? And people will trust on it after he assumes charge of CVC.... Such incidents show the mentality of the Government in a democracy," he said.
