UK based group lobbies to save Afzal

http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/jun/29parl.htm

A London-based group campaigning to save Afzal Guru, sentenced to death for the attack on Indian Parliament, plans to seek the intervention of the new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to get a reprieve for him.

What does the British PM have to do with a criminal in India ? Do these NGOs even use an iota of sense before tearing their hearts out?

If this were any western or mid-east country, he would have been dead by now. Either the guards would have killed him, or a court convicted him in a month. Atleast he got a decent trial in "undemocratic, communal" India :-)

Worse, the new President seems to be the kind who would grant him a pardon, if La Madame beckons.
