stem-cell breakthrough

i wonder if india is participating in this research at any significant level. i doubt it.

also, in a way this new discovery removes the big hurdles that conservatives have erected in the us. thus, it removes a big stumbling block for the us in its pursuit of advanced stem cell research.

Yes, it's quite an amazing development. Unfortunately, these cells are made through the use of retroviruses that are capable of causing cancer, and indeed some of the mice generated from the cell culture did come down with cancer. So it's not yet safe to use this technology directly in the human body. But perhaps other advances will come, that will eventually make it safe for medical use.
