Gazprom bid to cut off China gas

jun 20th, 2007

this is great! putin is asserting himself vis-a-vis the chinese as
well. he can put the screws on china to some extent by also
influencing the central asians to not give that much by way of
hydrocarbons to china. the atlanticists really really dont like putin,
do they?

funny, isn't it? all these others are doing more for india than india
does for itself under the invertebrates and dynasties.

latest, i hear Q is going to sue unnamed indian politicians for libel.
i can tell you which indian politicians he *isnt* going to sue -- the
ones that arranged for CBI's momentary memory lapse when it came time
to freezing Q's account.

Q -- what an apt, and absurdly james-bondish name.

sorry for the digression.

Bengal lags in lifestyle numbers under 30 yrs of LF rule

The most revealing result in the survey is that despite land reforms and land distribution programme, the percentage of households owning agricultural land in West Bengal is 34.7%, compared with the national average of 45.6%.

Even in states like Andhra, where the CPI(M) is demanding land reforms, 46.3% rural households have land compared with 45.7% in West Bengal.

In Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh --- the states that never had the "good fortune" of Left rule --- percentage of children under the age of three years who are underweight in the `children's nutritional status category' are 33%, 41%, 40%, 27% and 37% respectively as against 44% in West Bengal.

A state that takes pride in education, cuts a sorry picture compared with the likes of Punjab and Gujarat.

According to the NFHS-3 survey result, the percentage of women completing education of 10 years and above is 16% in West Bengal compared with 24% in Gujarat and 38% in Punjab. All the four southern states are ahead of West Bengal, with Kerala topping with 49%. Incidentally Kerala does not have uninterrupted communist rule beyond five years.
