China and India

Bharat Karnad is bang on target as he compares China and India. Hope the non-PM and assorted "patriotic" invertebrates in Dilli who kowtow to Massa, read it.

From his article,
China understands what matters in power politics and has prioritized the development of megaton thermonuclear weapons and intercontinental ballistic missiles to put its strongest adversary and the world on notice. India is satisfied with fielding simple fission weapons and mostly short-range missiles that do not frighten even Pakistan.

Dont we know the story already? The days of comparing the two are over.Forget about power and prestige, India is lying in the dumps with the failed countries of the world even in terms of basic health and income, and corruption. It is so shameful to see this kind of data, even third rate countries are way ahead of India.

In spite of this shameful state of affairs, there seems no urgency of any kind on the part of the country. Where can it go but down?

As long as the karta -dhartas of this country earn thousand of crores , and bulk of the junta is happy to live in the quota paradise, ready to loot and murder for their little gains, why should anyone in the world bother about the country? If the push is not coming from the top, and not from the multitude, where will it come from?

China is about to start building a road to Mount Everest:

As usual, India will be caught behind.

The sense of hopelessnes that Abhishek described is understandable..
Everyday brings with it new news of China and its innovative ways of encircling us..

Somebody can enlighten me here..
I doubt if India has a strategic apparatus at all..
Does the wisdom of folks like Brahma Chellaney, Bharat Karnad etc ever get into India's policy making apparatus. Do we have institutes like CATO, Brookings etc which look after India's needs. I mean real instituions not "talking shops" like the India International Centre in Delhi..

We have all this high sounding fluffy departments in Delhi with words like 'national', 'strategic', 'security' thrown in (e.g NSA, CCS etc etc).. What do they realy do..I can see one member Mr.Subrahmanyam waiting for the next opportunity to sell away India's nuclear assets..

Does one need some kind of doctorate degree from some American or British institute to come up with a firm response to Chinese designs..I believe the IFS folks in India are reasonably smart people. Why this inaction or these hare brained decisions? Most of the folks seem to be in a state of permanent paralysis, looking for the next suitor to be a slave to (the current in-thing is the US.. earlier we had Russia)

Why is India's foreign/strategic decision making so paralysed ?

Pardon me for my pessimism.. here

USA seems to be trying desperately to retaliate, and a sort of Cold War seems to be developing. Some news items in this regard have already been posted on this forum. Here are some more:

Harish,

Observer Research Foundation in chennai was set up with funding from Reliance (from what I heard). It is somewhat like a think tank - although I am not sure if anyone in uppity Delhi ever listens to them.

I think the primary problem is the culture in Delhi - there has to be some way to modify the culture in Delhi.

I tend to agree. Being a Delhite myself, I can see that culture of Delhi is one of the most perverse probably in entire india barring perhaps muslim dominated J&K and some areas of north-east. The culture of disdaining the law goes hand in hand with the attitude of showing off how high is anyone linked.
No wonder the most grotesque crime usually happen in Delhi.

Thanks @habc..
Yeah i have heard of the Organizer.. but as u rightly pointed out.. they do not have influence in the corridors of power..so it is no better than any of the talking shops in Delhi...

U rightly pointed about the culture in Delhi.. A sort of disdain and arrogance towards India pervades the corridors of powers there. Looking at India through the prism of Delhi makes important regions like North East, Southern india look insiginifcant...I think the culture of Delhi (or lack of it) runs deeper than any crime rate statistics.

But still, we should not attribute blame to our capital city for what seems to be a systemic failure on the part of our country to develop and foster debates on crafting strategic policy.

Am sure as days go by, we will have more "good" news from China and more hand wringing by invertebrates of India
