pratibha patil? who?

jun 14th, 2007

honestly, i have never before heard of the woman who would be president.

in my opinion, the one person who deserves to be made president is e.
sreedharan, the man who built the konkan railway and the delhi metro.
the epitome of leadership, the one ingredient that is lacking in
india. he has delivered (yes, i am aware that some people cavil at
him) again and again. more than can be said of most people in india.
he is a hero.

not a single politician deserves to be made president. it should be
only be leaders, visionaries, poets, scientists, novelists. (no, not u
r ananthamurthy or girish karnad :-). i think asha purna devi may have
made a good president. sigh, o v vijayan would have been such a great
'ambassador' as president: an urbane, witty, yet humble man. satyajit
ray, too: with that imposing demeanor and booming voice. maybe lakshmi
mittal? :-)

Hi,

LN mittal is a british citizen so not possible.

Also, I am disappointed with Mittal in a way - he happens to be on the board of directors of ICICI bank in INdia. And i say - its the worst bank around in terms of business ethics and Quality of service. Even some of the govt banks have gotten to be better after computerization.
Other pvt banks are much better in service.

The true test of a company/businessperson comes out when the business he owns comes in contact with the customer. I wont go and buy steel, but I sure would use a bank. Or for that matter, I might not buy petrochemicals, but I may use Reliance's fuel stations. Or not buy cement, but use Birla's Idea cellular phone service . All these big businesses are now coming to the customer directly in mass numbers.

I read an issue of The Week (ok, its a commie rag, but the story about banks is real) in my office. It mentions use of goondas by ICICI bank to threaten credit card holders. They may promise a free card, but then start charging saying that the terms and conditions have changed. icici bank is almost run by white-collar goondas.

I think we all agree on ICICI bank's ethics and quality of customer service.

I thought Laxmi Mittal was famous for holding on to his Indian passport despite making his riches in the UK. Has this changed recently? He may still not be eligible to be president, becasue he is a permanent resident of Britain.

Can someone verify this?
