Automotive Transformation

India's Reva apparently has quite a significant deployment in London. Meanwhile, GM is promising to turn their latest Chevy Volt prototype into a production model by 2010. Last year, Lotus Engineering announced their Tesla electric sportscar, whose design is now being launched as a production vehicle by Tesla Motors.
While Tata is going for their 1-lakh people's car, Mahindra is partnering with Renault to market their ultra-cheap Logan vehicle in India.
I'm surprised that no Indian automaker has yet tried to get an experienced design house (eg. Lotus) to create a top-notch design for a cheap-but-safe-efficient car for the developing world.
