interesting crises all over the subcontinent

mar 16th, 2007

why is it that there's always a nice diversionary move whenever quatrocchi and the bofors agenda is on people's minds?

how convenient that the marxists obliged the kaangress by shooting people in nandigram. this succeeded in taking attention away from bofors and q and onto nandigram! amazing coincidence, the timing.

similarly, how nice of the naxals to attack the chattisgarh police also just when the quatrrocchi issue was roiling the nation! once again, nice little diversion there, don't you think? q has summarily been pushed off the front pages of the papers.

so much for india.

in bangladesh, the coup-leader generals have put khaleda zia's son, mr. ten per cent himself, in jail. they have rounded up close to 100,000 politicians and jailed them. the common man there is ecstatic, apparently. sheikh hasina's offices have been raided. it's equal opportunity attacks by the army after the coup.

in nepal, more of the same, as the chinese proxy maoists are consolidating their gains. they are not turning in their weapons, and they have successfully turned the place into a happy hunting ground for christists and mohammedans.

in pakistan, musharraf is now the object of sympathy after the yanks (and the obliging NYT) leaked out some memos indicating that the man is out of favor with his sponsors in foggy bottom. whereupon he creates a crisis by firing the chief justice.

interesting times in the subcontinent, indeed.
