volckergate gets interesting

dec 3rd

the revelations by aniel methrani, ambassador to croatia and until recently a honcho in the congress party, are quite intriguing. he says, to put it bluntly, that natwar singh is lying and that both natwar and the congress party profited from the iraq scandal.

the attempt to simply sweep this under the carpet does not seem to be working.

natwar singh appears to be saying something to the effect that if he goes down, he's going to drag the rest ofthem down with him as well. manmohan singh has been giving strong signals to the effect that he wishes natwar would sort of get the picture and resign on his own. i wonder if natwar will take the broad hint.

maybe natwar singh has, as they say, 'incriminating photographs', in other words, the smoking guns that can bring down others.

if i were natwar singh, i'd be rather careful. actually, very very careful. in today's fast-paced world, 'accidents' happen, you know. he better have pretty good insurance of various kinds, including envelopes to be opened in case of his unfortunate accidental death.

india is infamous for 'accidents'. eg.

the death of homi bhabha when an aircraft crashed
the death of subhas bose when an aircraft crashed (well, there's plenty of evidence that there was no aircraft and no crash)
the death of vikram sarabhai -- i dont remember what the accident was
the death of dewang mehta by a sudden heart attack at the age of 39
the death of rajesh pilot in a road accident
the death of madhavrao scindia in a road accident
the death of sanjay gandhi in a plane crash

and that's all i can think of off the top of my head. i am sure there have been plenty of other unfortunate accidents. poor man, prime of life and all that, sigh, what a shame, isn't it?

Interestingly, the plane crash that killed Sanjay wasn't the only one that had mechanical problems. Curiously the previous planes *gifted* by some Italian businessman had all developed technical snags. The last one was successful. Please note that Scindia died in a plane crash, while Pilot died in a road crash. Similarly a Punjab Chief Minister(ex?) was eliminated by a Truck. Olof Palme was mysteriously killed when the Bofors issue was blown wide open. Devaraj Urs died after an insulin injection administered by his adopted daughter in Bangalore. There was no post mortem but the state govt (Cong-I) just rushed through his last rites.
