Ride-sharing apps are making transportation more liquid - ie. you can increasingly summon transportation on demand for lower cost. This can do great things for underdeveloped countries, including helping to bridge the gaps in their transportation market:

What other basic things do we want to have more liquidity in? Just look up Maslow's hierarchy of needs, I guess.
