the author has accurately captured the spiritual dimension of trust. i have seen a number of comments by dr kalyan on this topic too, quoting kautilya et al.

btw, atwood's "the handmaid's tale" is a must-read for what life would look like for women, non-whites etc. in a strictly-run christist fundamentalist dystopia. the skin crawls at the depictions of young women being used as baby factories, for instance, and they have no identity other than 'ofBob', ie. baby factory of bob. lovely world the christists inhabit. the recent texas polygamist revelations were fairly close to the terrible future envisaged by atwood. (did she get a nobel prize? i think she did.) the movie is not bad, but the bookis so good it gives one the creeps.
