I don't know if Gurcharan Das meant this as a joke - but this 'liberal' has finally found an intellectual peg to hang his anti-Modism on - the famous Martha Nussbaum - no less.
Yes that's the one - the one who talks of innocent Muslim vendors being beaten up by 'emotionally charged Hindu pilgrims' for not saying Jai Shri Ram - before they are roasted alive (the 'emotionally charged' that is not the innocents).
No mention by Das of course of which 'community' really has a problem accepting plurality (anyone heard of Dar-ul-harb); how come Mr Das found nothing to say about Nandigram? - surely a more recent event than the 2002 riots. Of course, the mighty Nussbaum sees no danger to democracy there - so why bring it up. While you are at Mr. Das - Oh Lord of the Idiots - perhaps you would like to read what Martha Nussbaum and company are really all about
In any other country and in any other newspaper, the likes of Das would be flayed for leaning on so weak a crutch. However, this is India and this is TOI - so all hail the Idiot Chief. This guy just lost whatever respect I had for him (I did - he was not all bad)

Words like Genocide are bandied around with such ease these days.
I did not expect Mr Das to write like this though.I used to think he was one of the reasonable guys writing for Toilet Paper but doesnt seem so anymore.....
Maybe he should start talking about the Nandigram pogrom ?
