thorium

nov 27th, 2007

i have long conjectured that the yanks are trying to shut down india's thorium research, while proceeding on their own. here it is in black and white, more or less. this is undoubtedly part of the small print in the 123 agreement. they don't want india to have energy independence -- ever. their world view is that india is to be a second-rate power for ever. honestly, can't blame them for it, because the politicians they deal with in india are second-rate buffoons.

i have come to the conclusion that nuclear fission is just not a good thing for india, period. this is the visceral reason behind my opposition to the indo-us 'deal'.

i think we should take a page from bhutto's book and 'eat grass' to make alternative energy (especially solar) happen.

my big concern about fission is that it a) produces huge amounts of highly radioactive waste that will pollute india's precious land, b) the fissile material will easily land up in the hands of terrorists. in fact, the politicians will simply give it to them.

Cleaner Nuclear Power?

Congress pushes for another look at thorium fuel, saying it could reduce the amount of high-level nuclear waste produced by reactors.
