the limeys can keep them.

if india can create more educated people they will gradually take all the high-end jobs from the limeys, who can then go back to being pond scum as they have been through most of history: being beaten up by romans, celts, gauls, vikings etc.

These guys can continue on this 'protectionism' and make British banks more uncompetitive. The reality is that banking - like all other industries needs to get cost conscious.
Banking is a technology intensive industry, and cost savings resulting from technology implementation (ATM, Internet banking etc.) have already been realised. What is more these savings cycles are 'democratic' - in the sense that everyone can avail of them.
Sweet justice would be if India ups it's savings rate and eventually just buys these British banks. Hindus in Britain have already bought a lot of Protestant churches and converted them to temples, we have started buying their steel industry - why not do their banks as well? Londonistan is after all the biggest financial services market.
Leave the limeys without faith or money!
Rajeev,
I agree with you that it's fine that call center jobs go back to the U.K or wherever if those little creeps want them back. Actually it will be a Phyrric victory for them and they'll likely have that little realization at the back of their minds. Why Phyrric? Because, it is quite obvious that the Indian call centers are of better quality than the native ones, the staff being far better educated and much more motivated. Statistics from the companies themselves bear them out. It's racism and bias that are causing the loud protests. So what the're really hunkering for is low quality and poor motivation ... why stop them? We can move on to bigger and better things.
Mahashivaji, you make some intersting and valid points yourself. The whites whatever their professed political orientation are one underneath. That is true in the US as well though they are not so brazen about it as the Brits are. I also agree with you that it's better to reserve comments but only at a personal level during interaction with others. The best would be to make subtle remarks without being emotional. The fight should be at the societal or institutional level. We will make faster progress if we are lowkey about our advances. Y'know: "Speak softly and carry a big stick".
I wish though that Indians would learn the tricks of the whites in sticking up for their own kind so subtly while mouthing meaningless platitudes. Indians do not stick together. Most (but not all) Indians I know who've advanced in the corporate world for example think that they must be ass kissers of whites (to be perfectly clear about it) to advance. Consequently they go out of their way to overlook Indian subordinates and kiss up to white subordinates. They seem to think that it will bring them acceptance. Actually it earns them the contempt of the whites and a kind of harmless dog treatment. One Indian I know (who will surely rise in the ranks :)) declared publicly that he doesn't care that India is making progress. Why? Because he is in the U.S and not in India. This while holding an Indian passport. It was certainly not necessary for him to say that but obviously he was looking for acceptance. Contrast this with the Chinese behavior. They always look after their kind. A Chinese manager will very actively promote Chinese subordinates. They virtually never kiss up to the whites in the obvious way that many Indians do.
The reason that the Brits have enormous influence on India as you rightly point out is because our educated "elite" instintictively want to kiss up to them. Doesn't take much for our "elite" to do their bidding. Look no further than MS for an example.

>>It's actually better for us that they think we are inferior. It suits us perfectly. We made this much progress because they think we're a bunch of no good darkies....
Absolutely right MahaShivaji..:) Actually its better to play dumb & learn from the westerners -- their way of doing things, so that we know what they are upto. As Michael Corlene said in Godfather Part III: My dad -- Don Vito Corlene -- taught me many things...but the most important thing that he told me was: keep your friends close but your enemies closer....and also as Sun Tzhu said: always know your enemy...frankly speaking Westerners are nobodies friends...its in their genes...on account of being 'individualistic' -- me, myself & I....so we should be wary of them trust nobody...especially in diplomacy. We have to further our interests without threatening or imposing our values on anyone.
I am sometimes amazed at the turnaround the Westeners perspective towards India has undergone...now we are the shining example of diversity, democracy, multiculturalism...n all that kind of BS...when 20 years back it was the same Western nations that use to condemn India by passing resolutions for 'committing atrocities' on its minorities (read Khalistanis) while at the same time according shelter & political asylum to the terrorists who use to kill innocent people in India and then escaped in the arms of their backers comfortably ensconced in Western nations....another example might be Australia...when in '98 India conducted nuclear explosions...this former British colony was at the forefront of condeming India for this act -- as if the world was coming to an end...or heavens was falling apart...and now..now Australia wants to develop and deepen its friendship with India...'coz both the nations share the same British heritage...British heritage my foot...:(...all this turnaround & your (as well as Brownian Motion)'s comment remind me of what Malcolm X said: A White man always speaks with a fork-tongue.
