july 26th, 2006

from an journalist friend. an online petition as suggested by sage, and a large number of letters to the editor at newsweek would be helpful.

rajeev, this is libellous. for the first time i am hearing that Hindu fanatics bombed the jama masjid. even indian express has not made such a preposterous claim. my suggestion: can we mobilise a huge, and i mean huge, number of signatures on this single point so that newsweek is forced to print it and that by itself will demolish the rest of the 'opinion'? i

It appears it was Newsweek Error

Correction: In Shekhar Gupta's original submission of the story "A Cause for Comfort," (July 24) Gupta wrote, "They [terrorists] bombed Jama Masid, the stately 17th-century mosque in old Delhi..." Unfortunately, due to an editing error, the sentence was changed in the magazine's print edition to "Hindu fanatics bombed the Jama Masjid." NEWSWEEK regrets the error.

Why don't they make an editing error and title their magazine Islamweek ?

Idiots.

I must say though even with this error that I do not strictly identify with S Gupta's espousing of the much vaunted "Secular Nationalism". Could there be anything such as that in India? Can folks that subscribe to only foreign thought, not as a means of upliftment - but as dogma (Islam, Christism, Marxism et al.) ever be nationalistic?
