chinese encirclement at its zenith: they are going to build deep water port at trivandrum!!!!!

jan 19th

this is going to be another gwadar, this one at vizhinjam in trivandrum. and we are all distracted by quattrochi and the antics of the UPA. meanwhile, the chinese (government) are building a port on indian soil!

this is the ultimate in folly on the part of indians. every time indians deal with china, they get totally snookered.

1. tibet where treaty rights were given away, now a serious threat to indian security
2. nepal where the chinese are making massive inroads
3. cocos islands that were given to burma, now a chinese port
4. now, the ultimate, a foothold in kerala, with chinese government companies getting the contract

this is a huge disaster for india's national security.

china has constructed a series of ports as part of its encirclement of india:

1. cocos islands
2. gwadar in baluchistan
3. they negotiated with the maldives to lease an island but didn't succeed
4. now vizhinjam

vizhinjam-poovar is an ancient port, some say it was the ophir referred to in ancient texts as a great port of the indies. it has a draft of 72 feet, certainly the deepest in india, possibly one of the deepest in the world, which means that very large container ships and also oil tankers can berth there without dredging. this is a big advantage for a port.

the chinese are landing up there just in time for the next elections to bring marxists to power in kerala. this port project would be an excellent way for chinese to swarm all over the place, send money in, and get into serious espionage. notice that one of the firms is a chinese government-owned firm.

good question to ask: why is the oommen chandy (congress) govt so keen to give the project to the chinese at the fag end of its term?

another good question: what is in the vicinity of trivandrum that would be good for the chinese to keep an eye on?

1. ISRO's vikram sarabhai space center where the PSLV, GSLV etc. are designed and built. translation: missile technology. ISRO's mahendragiri testing center in nagercoil an hour away is where the rockets are all tested

2. the southern air command is in trivandrum.

3. at cochin, 4 hours away, india's first aircraft carrier is being built. the southern naval command is in cochin.

4. all along the kerala coast are thorium-laden sands, the raw material for fast breeder technology. what would you like to bet that the chinese will be mining the sands and exporting them?

5. vizhinjam is the *nearest* point in india to the major shipping lanes of the arabian sea-indian ocean through which almost all of china's and japan's oil passes

there are a couple of other points worth noting:

1. the fisherfolks along the kerala coast and in particular in the kanyakumari district of tamil nadu are overwhelmingly roman catholic, having been forcibly converted by francis xavier

2. the northern districts of kerala are overwhelmingly populated by mohammedans. some contend that they are ethnically cleansing hindus from the coast of malabar, so as to make convenient entry points for arms smuggling and other activities. the massacre of hindu fishermen at maraad near calicut by mohammedans was part of this. also, there is a giant madrassa in calicut on 500 acres of land, funded generously by sheikhs from kuwait and saudi arabia, where they have a large number of kashmiri students

put all this together, and kerala's future is either kashmir or balochistan. pretty bleak

1. kashmir-style: the hindus will be ethnically cleansed and will be refugees seeking shelter elsewhere

2. balochistan-style: chinese port for the benefit of china, the locals will be oppressed and taken advantage of

india's ability to inflict damage on itself is absolutely astonishing!

Chinese consortium bags deal for Vizhinjam construction
Pioneer News Service/ Thiruvananthapuram

The Kerala Cabinet has decided to award the contract for the construction of the Vizhinjam International Transshipment Container Terminal to a consortium of three companies. Disclosing this here on Wednesday after a Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the tender submitted by the Chinese consortium was found to be more advantageous for the project and the State.

A consortium of Mumbai-based Zoom Developers and two Chinese companies - Kaidi Electric Power Company and China Harbour Engineering Company - is likely to sign the contract early next month. The contract for the port, which is considered to be the deepest in the world, will be on a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis.

Mr Chandy said that the State Government had requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to lay the foundation stone for the container terminal on February 3.

Only two bidders - Zoom Developers-backed Chinese consortium and Mumbai-based Gammon India - were in the final reckoning for the Rs 4,400-crore port project.

After the techno-economic analysis of the bids, the Chinese bidding was found to be more beneficial for the State and the project. The Chinese consortium, experts in harbour and engineering with experience in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore ports, qualified based on the technical grade.

The Government will sign the agreement at the earliest and work on the project will commence by the middle of this year. If everything goes as per schedule, the project will go on stream in 2009. The project, which will be a joint venture between the State Government and private promoters, is proposed to be implemented in three phases at a total cost of Rs 4,400 crore.

Of this, the first phase, for which the tenders have been received now, will cost Rs 1,850 crore. The second and third phase of the project is expected to cost Rs 990 crore and Rs 1,520 crore respectively.

The State Government's equity in the joint venture would be 24 per cent, in which non-resident Keralites and government institutions would be able to become stakeholders. At a debt-equity ratio of 1: 1.5, the State's share in the equity of the joint venture would be around Rs 180 crore in the first phase.

The State Government has already floated a company, Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd, for developing the basic infrastructure for the project, such as roads, railway line, water supply, and electricity. The total outlay for establishing these facilities has been placed at Rs 80 crore.
