from the mailbox: Security concerns ignored

jan 4th

ouch: we *gave* the cocos to the chinese, in effect! this is the sort of action that generations to come will wonder about: did such a person ever walk the earth? :-)

and also, how on earth did a billion people allow the perpetrators to rule the country?

Security concerns ignored
by Maj Gen (retd) Rajendra Nath

...Incidentally, it is not generally known that Cocos
island was part of India, when India achieved
Independence. It was during Prime Minister Nehru's
tenure that India decided to hand over Cocos island to
Burma, now Maynmar as was stated by George Fernandes
in his interview to the BBC.

In the late fifties, Nehru visited Eastern Command
when Lt General Thorat was commanding the Eastern
Sector. Gen Thorat has talked about this visit in his
book "Reveille to Retreat". He talked of the
increasing threat from China to NEFA as it was
constructing new roads to the Indian border. He
suggested that India should build defences half way up
the border on important features to face the growing
Chinese threat.

Nehru replied that he was busy bringing about a
rapprochement between the Soviet Union and the USA and
that it would not look proper if he was seen moving
troops towards the border in NEFA. Thorat's
only comment in the book was that Nehru took himself a
bit too seriously.

As is well known, Nehru had also instructed Gen
Thimayya to focus on the threat from Pakistan and that
the Foreign Ministry would deal with the China
problem. The results are well known.

Sorry for the OT-

Hope you guys have seen this news item

http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/01/04/italy.jesus.reut/index.html

The plaintiff says "I started this lawsuit because I wanted to deal the final blow against the Church, the bearer of obscurantism and regression,".

But I seriously doubt that this would be a 'final blow'. Why, it's a well known fact that Christ (as portrayed by the church) is Mythological. Wasn't it some pope who'd said (some 4-5 centuries earlier) that the myth (of Christ) had served them well.

Really, I wish someone, just somebody, would give this issue due importance in the Indian English News Media.

How do some people like Mukundan C
Menon become so imaginative ?

I'm also trying to reconstruct
history using my imagination and
logic. I cannot imagine a saffron
clad Adi Sankara, who "owned" only
a begging bowl and stick, going
around demolishing temples, though
I can imagine him arguing about
philosophies.

And in any case, an Advaitin,
especially a Self-realized one,
is not capable of violence, since
there is "NO TWO" as far as he is
concerned. For him, self and the
other are ONE, so who is there to
strike down ??! A Self-realised
Advaitin will not strike anyone.
And chances are, with all the
peace vibes emanating from him,
no one will strike him either! They
would just feel very very peaceful
in his presence.

So this Mukundan Menon has just been cooking some fairy tales and
trying to malign Hinduism.
