EU kills off software patents

this means that the us will continue to the only country that propagates these increasingly dubious patents in software. this, i suspect, is because there are plenty of clever lawyers in the us who are ensuring job security for themselves.

at least a small blow has been struck in rethinking intellectual property. indian technology types really need to put some thought into how to take advantage of/fit into the existing and emerging IPR regimes. it's pretty ad hoc right now, and that is like the old non-aligned movement nonsense: short-term warm-and-fuzzy feelings, long-term disaster.
