Quick notes: Price gouging | Dhaka rising...

  • Make hay while the pandemic rages? Dr Reddy's prices DRDO's 2DG anti-Covid drug at Rs 990 per sachet.

  • Don't exempt Pfizer from local trials: People who had received two doses of Pfizer saw a three-fold reduction in their antibodies against B.1.617 variant.. Pfizer vaccine less effective

  • Data proves Kumbh wasn't a super-spreader: Out of 16,000 police personnel deployed in the Kumbh Mela Kshetra only 88 (or just a little above 0.5 per cent) had tested positive for Covid by April 30.

  • 'Kingpin' in bed allotment scam is a BJP worker: The Central Crime Branch sleuths investigating the Bengaluru bed-allotment scam have arrested the suspected kingpin, said to be an aide of BJP MLA Satish Reddy

  • Ascendant Bangladesh: Covid aid to India, financial help to Sri Lanka — Bangladesh is showcasing its economic rise

  • Mess in the name of vikAss: The whole of Lakshadweep is a fragile ecosystem with an average height of just about 8 feet above sea level and any development that does not cater to sustainability, will render the whole area useless and uninhabitable in no time. There are islands that have sunk under the sea in our times.

  • Raag Hansadhwani: Mohd Aman

  • Japan wants TSMC, Sony to build 20 nanometre chip plant: Japan's most advanced semiconductor plant is a 40 nanometre chip factory operated by Renesas Electronics Corp

  • Antitrust lawsuit against Amazon: Thou shalt not undercut Amazon prices.. "Amazon fixed online retail prices through contract provisions and policies".. If a vendor sells a product on Amazon, it can’t sell the same product elsewhere. Amazon reserves the right to kick non-compliant vendors off its platform, among other punishments.

  • Dirty tricks: USA pressured Brazil not to buy Sputnik V vaccine – a decision which may have costed many thousands of lives.

Should China Be Sued?

Who's Really Covering up For China's COVID Involvement?

The idea that this virus pandemic and all of the deaths inflicted everywhere across the world, were the product of some careless mishandling of an intentionally engineered pathogen is really horrifying. This is why Xi Jinping attacked us at Galwan in Ladakh, while also making intrusions against Taiwan, Japan, and launching a crackdown in HongKong --  because he immediately needed some major distractions to help him deflect attention from his own govt's failed coverup of negligence at their govt laboratory.

American Celebs Bow To China, Revealing Extent of Sellout

Quick notes: Guard of the Himalayas | 3rd dose...

  • Sundarlal Bahuguna, Guard of Himalayas: “Himalaya is a land of penance. Nothing in the world can be achieved without penance. I am doing this on behalf of all who are striving to save our dying planet. Why should a river, a mountain and forest or the ocean be killed, while we cling to life?”.

As late as 2018, when Bahuguna was 91, he said in an interview that dams were paving the way for calamities and expressed concern that lakhs of trees will be cut down to make way for the Char Dham road and Pancheshwar dam. “The well-being of the Himalayas is important not just for Uttarakhand but the rest of the country as well”.

  • Protection wanes by 6 months: Efficacy of Chinese vaccines is “not high” — officials back 3rd dose

  • Only Allopathy gets benefit of doubt? AP govt stops distribution of herbal Covid cure. . . . No side effects, say Ayurvedic experts. ‘The mixture, containing 18 ingredients, is safe for administration to COVID-19 patients’

  • More of East India loot? India challenges $1.2 billion Cairn arbitration award, says 'never agreed to arbitrate'.. When an Air India aircraft lands at any US airport, Cairn would be able to move court and get that attached before it flies out.

  • Mango exports: US apples arrived in India without the Indian inspector being in the USA, but vice versa was not allowed. No Indian mangoes in US for second year in a row.

  • What are weeds? An empty field left undisturbed for long enough will inevitably turn into a forest, given enough time. Nature will fill empty, barren or disturbed ground with plants which quickly stabilise and build the soil, to prepare the ground for progressively larger plants, until the area is filled with trees, and many layers of understory plants beneath them. This process is called Forest Succession.

Why forests? Because forest systems are one of the most productive and most sustainable systems known, it is what Nature creates at almost every opportunity. Forest systems can be designed to produce food if we construct them using edible plant species, and they can produce other useful resources such as timber, fibres, dyes and medicines. In addition, what makes them special is that they are living ecosystems, and therefore support great biodiversity, they provide a home to a wide range of flora and fauna, which all comes together to create a balanced, natural, pest and weed free system.

When any soil is laid bare or disturbed, Nature has a system for repairing the degraded ground in order to prevent soil erosion and to reconstruct the ecosystem which was there or should be there. As the first line of action, Nature deploys pioneer plants, to stabilise the soil. These plants all have various unique attributes and aid the reconstruction process in various ways. Here are some examples:

    - Plants with deep tap roots drill into hardpan to decompact it, creating channels to allow water and air back in the soil.

    - Plants with fine, net-like root structures hold the soil together and prevent erosion on slopes and banks.

    - Plants with thorns or which are poisonous protect the ground cover plants from being over-grazed by herbivores.

We are all familiar with these amazing pioneer plants, we commonly call them weeds! Weeds are by definition “plants growing where we don’t want them to” and that is not a biological or ecological categorisation, it’s just a unscientific value judgement of the worth and place of certain plants in the ecosystem according to subjective human opinion. The pioneer plant’s action of stabilising any soil disturbance or damage is only the first of many steps of a full-blown reconstruction process which Nature carries out.

  • Planting the water: Peru is reviving a pre-Incan technology for water. It uses water canals called amunas – to divert wet-season flows from mountain streams and route them to natural infiltration basins. Because the water moves more slowly underground as it travels through gravel and soil, it emerges downslope from springs months later, when the comuneros collect it to water their crops. Because much of their irrigation soaks into the ground and eventually makes its way back to the rivers, repairing abandoned amunas scattered throughout the highlands could extend water into the dry season for city dwellers too.

  • Iran unveils its domestic supercomputer: Wholly designed and built by a team of Iranian engineers, it has a performance capacity of 0.56 petaflops at the moment and will reach one petaflops in two months.

  • 2DG: “It is a glucose molecule analogue which can’t undergo further glycolysis. Monocytes/macrophages in Covid lungs (proliferative tissues: inflammation/tumour) become highly glycolytic after infection and facilitate SARS-CoV-2 replication which accumulates in virally infected cells and prevents virus growth by stopping viral synthesis and energy production.. Dr Jain showed that 2-DG can function as a differential radio-chemo-modifier, which can sensitize cancer cells while protecting normal cells. It enhances cellular damage and cell death by inhibiting repair and recovery.”

The soul of rectitude testifies in the Senate

The news business just can't stop clowning itself. The latest indignity is an international fact-checking debacle originating, of all places, at a "festival of fact-checking."

The Poynter Institute is perhaps the most respected think tank in our business, an organization seeking to "fortify journalism's role in a free society," among other things through its sponsorship of the fact-checking outlet PolitiFact. A few weeks back, it held a virtual convention called the "United Facts of America: A Festival of Fact-Checking."

The three-day event featured special guests Christiane Amanpour, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Brian Stelter, and Senator Mark Warner — a lineup of fact "stars" whose ironic energy recalled the USO's telethon-execution of Terrance and Phillip before the invasion of Canada in South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. Tickets were $50, but if you wanted a "private virtual happy hour" with Stelter, you needed to pay $100 for the "VIP Experience."

During the confab, PolitiFact's Katie Sanders asked Fauci, "Are you still confident that [Covid-19] developed naturally?" To which the convivial doctor answered, "No, I'm not convinced of that," going on to say "we" should continue to investigate all hypotheses about how the pandemic began:

superstition

no prizes for guessing which picture is superstition

1. rajnath singh with rafale

2. some newly inducted christian kerala minister in the communist government of pinarayi vijayan. that's right, a COMMUNIST government

is there a christian monopoly in the indian medical world especially re the wuhan virus?

what i want to know is, where's the famous 'scientific temper'?

1. the IMA president is an out and out evangelist jesus freak https://archive.is/ccydA

2. the JIMA writes an editorial quoting some vague christian text prominently and putting down hindu ideas https://twitter.com/bennedose/status/1396493184125915136?s=20

3. the most prominent doctors quoted in the media are all from the christian medical college, vellore: jayaprakash muliyil, gagandeep kang, jacob john. and so far as i can tell, they are very critical. all the time. about everything, even though gagandeep kang is in every committee formed by the govt.

4. jacob puliyel, a doctor, and prashant bhushan (who else!) have filed a PIL in the SC to force covaxin clinical trial data to be put in the public domain. why? the peer-reviewed information is due to appear in the right medical journal (yeah, the omnipresent lancet) in june

i am wondering if there are some invisible hands behind all this. pfizer, maybe? the bill gates foundation, maybe?

how chinese are propagating their traditional medicine

praise for kerala from the nyt. or paid propaganda for the CPM

so far as i can tell on the ground, almost all of this is complete myth. the famous 'coronaslayer' shylaja was dropped unceremoniously from the new cabinet sworn in this week. now if she had been SO successful in managing nipah and wuhanvirus, it makes no sense that she would be replaced at the height of the second wave.

conclusion: she was just a figurehead.

and this article either means there is leftover propaganda money from the elections, or more from the soro$$$$ stable.

just like fauci was built up as second only to god, shylaja was built up as the wise health minister. past experience? schoolteacher. the new health minister is veena george. past experience? tv journalism. what does her ascent mean? CPM is trying to draw the christian vote away from the congress.

Quick notes: Fishing fleet | Desi 5G...

  • China's fishing fleet: New evidence has emerged that China’s state-owned fishing fleet may be a front for covert intelligence operations in the disputed waters of the South China Sea. The investigation revealed that numerous "fishermen" are actually militiamen responsible for guarding China’s outposts.

  • Shoddy oxygen concentrators flood Indian market: Relaxed govt rules allowed consumers to import China-made oxygen concentrators for personal use through e-commerce portals. “If the devices are run for a period of time, the concentration of oxygen suffers a substantial dip”. Buyers are finding this out the hard way.

  • Can IBM rescue Intel? IBM already licenses its transistor designs to GlobalFoundries and Samsung, so Intel is joining a team of TSMC competitors to pool research and share the huge cost of developing ever-smaller transistors.. Intel could leap directly from 7nm in 2022 to IBM’s 2nm in 2024. By working together, the two American companies can put Intel back onto an equal footing with TSMC.

  • Atmanirbhar America: U.S. Senators close to inking $52 Billion Semiconductor funding plan.. The $52 billion five-year plan pales in comparison to South Korea's $450 billion support to its semiconductor industry.

  • 5Gi: The Indian 5G standard is capable of providing broadband connectivity in rural India using ultra long-range cell sites. However, if 5Gi comes into force, network gear and mobile device makers will have to make India-specific products, which will lead to an increase in costs.

It will take several reiterations to fix compatibility issues, but it is doable.

  • Changing life in the hills with jobs: Dhiraj Dolwani is stemming the tide of migration to cities and ushering in social change in Uttarakhand in the process.

  • India loses out in Iranian roulette: For years, ONGC has been working on Farzad-B gas field and invested over $400 million in prospecting the gas field. However, when it came to commercially developing the gas find, it dumped ONGC. Something similar happened to developing Iran’s 620-kilometre $2 billion railroad connecting Chabahar Port to Zahedan in Afghanistan.

another indian makes waves at google: never heard of this man before

ISRO's Hypersonic Vehicle: TSTO-TD

Even while it continues its test program for its Reusable Launch Vehicle Test Demonstrator (RLV-TD), ISRO has announced the next phase of its reusable launch vehicle program, the Two-Stage-to-Orbit Test Demonstrator (TSTO-TD), which is targeted for 2027. This will be a 2-stage vehicle consisting of an upper stage and a lower stage. The lower stage will be an hypersonic aircraft powered by air-breathing propulsion. The upper stage rides piggyback, and will detach in the uppermost atmosphere to ascend to orbit using rocket propulsion.

Hypersonic propulsion is a very advanced technology, used for cutting-edge weaponry and also having potential use for rapid intercontinental transport, and even reusable orbital launch vehicles. India's pursuit of this technology is then doubly strategic, and we need to make full use of any opportunities for import of foreign technologies & components relating to this, before there are any moves to restrict the proliferation of this technology. As a member of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) which China is not a member of, India should want to keep these technologies out of the hands of Pakistan, and should encourage China to become an adherent to non-proliferation agreements for this technology.

India's BrahMos missile is supersonic but not hypersonic, with a maximum speed of Mach 3 (hypersonic systems tend to travel faster than Mach 5). Until and unless China stops proliferating dangerous strategic technologies to Pakistan, India should continue to provide the same to some of China's neighbors around the South China Sea region, etc.

Biden Govt Wants to Negotiate Global Corporate Tax Treaty With World

The Biden govt in the US may be looking to negotiate a global corporate tax treaty with the world, to ensure that all corporations get some minimum taxation. I suppose India might like this, since our taxation needs will always be greater than more developed countries. At the same time, it would eliminate tax havens present in various countries around the world.

But why is the Biden govt seeking something so unprecedented? It's because the US Democratic Party are literally in a fight for their political lives, and they're willing to throw away American sovereignty to cede taxation powers to a foreign consensus body, in order to keep their party alive. US Democrat politics requires more social welfare spending to keep their poorer voting classes happy. This in turn requires heavier taxation of businesses, which would likely send corporates fleeing abroad to where they can be taxed less (India would probably not be one of those places.) So by negotiating a treaty with the rest of the world to ensure that corporates everywhere face some minimum tax rate wherever they go, it will help to reduce corporations in the US from fleeing abroad.

This could cause a widespread tax revolt among smaller businesses, since they're the ones who really have to pay corporate taxes (the larger corporations usually have to pay nothing at all, due to better accounting tricks.)

China Lands Its First Rover on Mars

Quick notes: Pharmacy of the world | Lathi force...

  • Pharmacy of the world: India failed to enlist the vast swathe of its manufacturing capabilities - biologics factories, for instance, that could have been repurposed into vaccine production lines.

After its grandstanding over its capacities to vaccinate the world, India now finds itself in a situation where it not only has to answer other nations who were promised doses, but also has to answer for the shutters-down boards at centres across the country.

  • Origins of the second wave: Evidence points to various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, in early Jan 2021, and not in Maharashtra a month later as is popularly assumed. It lies in the heart of the farmers’ agitation, in Chandigarh, where non-resident Indians arrived in droves from the UK.

  • Police heavy-handedness: Stop using lathi while enforcing lockdown norms, HC tells Karnataka govt

  • Can Dharamsala stop PLA's Tibetan gambit? The first priority for the new Tibetan administration in Dharamsala should be to look at Tibetan recruitment in the PLA, suggests Claude Arpi.

  • Tech challenged Bharat: After hiking prices, China now sending sub-standard oxygen concentrators to India.

  • Cairn Energy wants to attach PSB assets abroad: Given that deposits with overseas branches is public money and not a sovereign asset, attaching funds in such accounts is beyond the realm of rights of the said company.

Why Elon Musk’s Starbase is Meeting Resistance in Texas Border Town | WSJ

Quick notes: Isolating India | Han duplicity...

  • China pressures world to isolate India over covid: Very different from how China demanded it should be treated when the CCP unleashed the Wuhan virus upon the world. The Chinese govt, and its political and medical proxies, argued vociferously that restricting travel from China was unscientific and unnecessary, or even counter-productive.

  • Han duplicity: "PLA may undertake operations this summer to achieve whatever objectives they could not achieve last May".

  • Wuhan virus spreads in the air: Meat and poultry processing facilities have been sites for several Covid-19 superspreading events and workers in those industries have been especially likely to become infected.

  • Intellectual capital: UK wants Indian brains. India loves to lose its smartest.

To:

https://pib.gov.in/Pressreleaseshare.aspx?PRID=1716729

In a concerted response to the second surge of COVID-19 infection in the country, Ministry of Ayush is launching a massive nationwide campaign today to distribute its proven poly herbal Ayurvadic drugs AYUSH 64 and Sidha drug Kabasura Kudineer for the benefit of the vast majority of out of hospital COVID patients. The efficacy of these drugs has been proved through robust multi-centre clinical trials. The multi stakeholder campaign being launched by Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State (independent charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of Ayush (additional charge) will ensure that medicines reach the needy in a transparent and efficient manner. The main collaborator in the campaign is Sewa Bharati.

A comprehensive strategy of distribution has been chalked out and the role out will unfold in a phased manner, utilising the wide network of various institutions working under the aegis of the ministry and this will be supported by the countrywide network of Sewa Bharati.

It is worthwhile to note that since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country, the Ministry of Ayush has taken several initiatives toward control and mitigation of COVID 19, while also working in close collaboration with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in the fight against COVID 19. With the latest initiative of the Ministry to launch a nationwide campaign for distribution of AYUSH-64 and Kabasura Kudineer, India aims to strengthen its position in fight against COVID19 pandemic.

The Ministry has taken several initiatives and setup an Interdisciplinary AYUSH Research and Development Task Force involving experts from diverse fields to formulate and develop strategies for control and mitigation of COVID 19. Many clinical and observational studies have been undertaken to understand the role of AYUSH interventions in mitigation and management of COVID 19 whereas various studies were carried out on AYUSH-64, an Ayurvedic formulation developed by the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS)and Kabasura Kudineer, a classical Siddha formulation.

The Ministry of Ayush-Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) collaboration has recently completed a robust multi-centre clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of AYUSH 64 in the management of mild to moderate COVID-19 patients. Kabasura Kudineer, a Siddha medicine was also subjected to clinical trials for studying the efficacy in Covid-19 patients by Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) under Ministry of Ayush and is also found useful in the treatment of mild to moderate covid-19 infection.

The Ministry has also setup an Interdisciplinary Committee for Inclusion  of Ayurveda and Yoga Interventions in the 'National Clinical Management Protocol: COVID-19, which was chaired by Dr V M Katoch, former Director General ICMR.

reading between the lines, it's a conspiracy of silence. an omerta.

the smoking gun: fauci's NAIAD funded wuhan lab for gain of function research

how governance by courts works: 135 teachers dead incl pregnant lady

allahabad high court told the UP govt to run panchayat elections. the UP govt opposed it because of covid concerns, but the court apparently forced it to run the election before april 30.

people died.

and now the court is upset with the UP govt because people died due to election duty.

does anybody remember the story of how a muni (durvasa, maybe) wanted to do the job of brahma, of creation, and being not well-versed in creation, created some odd things, eg he forgot to add a seed to the cashew fruit, and ended up sticking it underneath?

institutions should do the jobs they are intended to do. courts do law. govts govern. judicial overreach may be counterproductive.

there's also a news story that a pregnant teacher, kalyana agrahari, 27, was compelled (even though she petitioned to be relieved of this duty) under threat of an FIR to go on election duty, and she has died from covid. this is in 'the print', so i am not sure how verifiable and correct the story is. i won't post a link to avoid giving them hits, you can look it up on google if you wish.

let us remember how tender the entire ecosystem was towards one safoora zargar because she was pregnant. she got bail on humanitarian grounds when she was accused of inciting riots.

out on bail, here's safoora exercising her freedom of speech:
