Smarting from the War on Terror, the Pakistanis were eagerly awaiting a drawdown of US troops in Afghanistan by an Obama under pressure from the hardline Left wing of the Democratic Party.
But now that the US electoral landscape has undergone a sea change in favor of the Republicans with their strong stance against AlQaeda and terrorism, the political winds may now favor staying the course against terror. If Obama compromises with the GOP by pushing back the deadline for withdrawal, then Pakistan will surely be ruing it. At the very least, the new redistribution of political power within the US may incline it to put more pressure on Pak at the bargaining table.
