Dear All,

http://JusticeForDivyenduFamily.wordpress.com

Vigil and Memorial Service for Dr. Divyendu Sinha, who was brutally assaulted in front of his wife and two sons on June 25th and later succumbed to the injuries.   The loss of a brilliant technocrat, a loving friend of family, friends, colleagues and students is loss to the whole community.

Date/Time:  Sunday, July 18th, 11AM to 2PM
Venue:        Old Bridge High School,  4209 Highway 516,  Matawan, NJ 07747

Petition: http://www.petitiononline.com/divyendu/petition.html

A strong showing of community support is very important.   Unless we hold together and join hands with other communities and face it , these incidents can and will happen again.  Unless we stay together and make a strong call for justice, it may never come just as Geetha Angara case.    This can happen to anyone of us or our loved ones.   Please take time to attend the event and also importantly spread the word to the maximum extent.

The community has responded well so far and there are nearly 9000 signatures on Petition( http://www.petitiononline.com/divyendu/petition.html ) and more than 27,000 hits to the website (http://JusticeForDivyenduFamily.wordpress.com) in about 10 days.   The result is seen that the Prosecutor has announced that they are trying them as adults.   We have to continue these efforts to render justice to the family and to the community.

There is also need for volunteers for very few people working hard to make this successful in a very short time, from booking hall, spreading the word to media and communities,  inviting lawmakers and administration officials,  setting up the program, reaching out to other communities etc.  These things need tremendous effort.  If you can help,  fill the form at the Vigil section on the website.  (You can also send email to JusticeForDivyenduFamily@gmail.com)

Regards,
Satya

Vigil and Memorial Service for Dr. Divyendu Sinha on Sunday, July 18th, 2010 at Old Bridge High School,  4209 Highway 516, Matawan, NJ 07747

New Jersey,  July 14, 2010: Indian American community leaders are planning to have a vigil in memory of Dr. Divyendu Sinha who died after being brutally assaulted by five teenagers, while taking a late night stroll with his family on June 25, 2010.  The vigil will be held at Old Bridge High School,  4209 Highway 516, Matawan, NJ 07747 on Sunday, July 18th from 11AM to  2 PM.

The memorial service is expected to be attended by lawmakers and administration officials as well as community leaders from Indian American community and other communities.    The tragedy brought back memories of brutal attacks against Indian Americans during 1987-1993 by gangs calling themselves dot busters.  The case of another Indian American Geetha Angara, murdered in Totawa 5 years ago remains unsolved and brings fears and concerns that justice for crimes against Indian Americans are not investigated with the zeal and vigor they deserve.

There has been outpouring of support calling for  justice for Dr. Divyendu family from the Indian American and immigrant communities as well as from all cross sections of society. Evidence of this can be found from the large number of visitors to the website www.JusticeForDivyenduFamily.wordpress.com.  Over 8300 outraged citizens have signed a petition to the Mayor, Prosecutor, NJ Attorney General and Governor demanding that the accused be tried as adults for this unprovoked and wanton murder.  Various Organizations and activists are working to provide emotional, financial and legal support to the family.

The event is organized by several Indian American community leaders.  It is an opportunity for the community at large to come together and demand justice for a senseless attack that took away a brilliant technocrat and professor,  who was loved by his family, friends, colleagues and students.

Community is also requested to volunteer and support this efforts.  Please send your name, address,  contact phone number to JusticeForDivyenduFamily@gmail.com
