Alleging blasphemy, Muslims chop off Christian professor's hand in Kerala (Photos and Videos)

jul 6th, 2010

blasphemy allegation over a pretty small thing.

if i remember right, there was a reference to some malayalam play, with an imaginary dialog between god and an unnamed person.

what joseph did is to name that unnamed person mohammed.

the manufactured rage is over the claim that this mohammed was that mohammed (pbuh). which, by the way, joseph never said. i also don't know joseph's background, but he may be a communist.

note the stunning silence of the usually hyperactive christists over this. the big heroes of the christists, like john dayal, sajan george, and assorted padres and godmen, and the pope ratzinger, have maintained a very scrupulous silence.

note also the stunning silence of the hyperactive pseudo-secularists and the ruling communists in kerala.

conclusion: christists and communists have decided that these guys can do anything in india and get away with it. therefore they will lie low. violence, therefore, pays.

btw, the arrested suspects have made death threats against the investigating police officer. and the perpetrators did not make too many attempts to run and hide.

the idea was twofold: first, this was intended to be a public statement to serve as a deterrent to others. second, they know they will be able to work the judicial system and escape any serious punishment. after all, they have the sterling example of teesta setalvad's perjury and witness tampering -- which she got away with.

for instance, note that the communist terrorist who hacked to death a hindu teacher in front of his primary school class, terrorizing the kids, has just been released for 'good behavior'. http://www.haindavakeralam.com/HKPage.aspx?PageID=2466&SKIN=l

conclusion: in allegedly civilized kerala, you can get away with murder if you belong to the correct groups.

Islamic group blamed for attack on lecturer

Posted on Jul 06, 2010

Kochi: Activists of a fundamentalist Islamic group called the Popular Front have been blamed for the attack on a college lecturer, whose right hand was chopped off on Monday allegedly because he had prepared a question paper mentioning Prophet Mohammed.

T J Joseph, a Malayalam lecturer, was attacked at Muvattupuzha in the district on Sunday while he was returning from a church along with his sister and mother. Joseph is on bail after being arrested by the police in April for preparing a question paper with alleged inflammatory references to Prophet Mohammed for an exam in a private college.

The two men under arrest for the attack on Joseph, 52, are members of Popular Front, Kerala Police said on Tuesday. The police said they have raided the Front's offices across Kerala as part of their investigation on the attack on Joseph.

Joseph was briefly arrested by the police in April for preparing a question paper for B.Com II year internal exams at the Thodupuzha New Man College.

The college suspended him after angry protests by Muslim organisations.

Alleging blasphemy, fanatics hack lecturer's hand

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a horrific instance of Talibanism, Muslim fanatics in Kerala on Sunday chopped off the right hand of a college lecturer, accusing him of setting a question paper with a derogatory reference to the Prophet.

Lecturer T J Joseph was returning home from church with his mother and sister around 8.30 am in Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district when he was accosted by the attackers.

"We had just got into our car when a van pulled up in front. Around eight people armed with swords and knives emerged and pulled out Joseph after smashing the windscreen.
They then chopped off his right hand and stabbed him in the left thigh," said Joseph's sister, Mary Stella, a nun.

"When we tried to prevent them, they attacked me and and our mother before exploding bombs and fleeing."

A police team recovered the severed hand from the compound of a house about 200m away. The 52-year-old lecturer was rushed to a private hospital where his condition is serious.

Police recovered the van in which the fanatics reached the scene. Two men, said to be activists of the Popular Front, a new incarnation of the hardline National Democratic Front, have also been taken into custody. Special police squads are searching sensitive areas in and around the town. "Personnel from this district and neighbouring places are working as a team and we'll nab the assailants soon," said IG B Sandhya.

In March this year, Islamic outfits had carried out protests against Joseph, who was a lecturer in the church-run Newman college in Thodupuzha in Idukki district over a portion in the Malayalam question paper for an internal examination for BCom students. They claimed that the question paper insulted the Prophet. The college later suspended Joseph who had set the questions and a criminal case was registered against him. The case is pending trial.

Reacting to the incident, state home minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters in New Delhi that the police would probe if any communal or terrorist outfit was involved. The BJP alleged that the home department could not evade responsibility for the growth of terror outfits in Kerala. "This is a direct consequence of the soft attitude adopted by the Left and Congress towards terrorist outfits," said BJP state chief V Muraleedharan.

Two activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI) were arrested on Monday in connection with the attack on a professor at Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district. Sources said 12 others, most of them with extremist links, were also taken into custody for interrogation.
Ashraf, 37, of Mundeth, Mekalady, and Jaffar, 28, of Eramaloor, Kothamangalam, were remanded to judicial custody by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Muvattupuzha.

The right palm of T.J. Joseph, 53, professor of Malayalam in the Newman College, Thodupuzha, was chopped off by the assailants on Sunday. He, along with his mother and sister, was returning home from church when a gang of six waylaid his car and attacked him with an axe.

Professor Joseph underwent two lengthy micro-vascular surgeries at the Specialists Hospital, Kochi, and the severed palm was 'reconstructed and re-grafted'. Hospital sources said he was conscious and that his condition was stable. He is recovering in the intensive-care unit.

Professor Joseph has been under suspension following a controversy over disparaging remarks about religious beliefs in an examination question paper he prepared for undergraduate students in the college.

A team led by Muvattupuzha Deputy Superintendent of Police Sabu Mathew is probing the attack. T. Vikram, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural, who was camping in the area, said: "We have talked to church leaders to convince them that an all-out effort is being made to nab the culprits."

Meanwhile, the Muslim Aikya Vedi took out a march to the Muvattupuzha police station claiming that its activists did not have any role in the attack. Police presence was intensified at Muvattupuzha and Thodupuzha.

The attack has caused widespread shock and outrage across Kerala. Several organisations, cutting across political and religious divides, have condemned it and called for stern steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Many Muslim organisations, including the Indian Union Muslim League, condemned the attack and urged the government to take action against the culprits.

After the controversy over the question paper arose, Prof. Joseph was arrested for allegedly fomenting communal disturbances. In the question paper, he had used a passage about an imaginary dialogue between God and Muhammad, and the students were asked to comment.

Certain Muslim organisations, assuming that 'Muhammad' in the passage was Prophet Muhammad, took offence and staged protest rallies and clamoured for action against the professor. Stones were thrown at the college run by the Christian church.

The college management apologised and, on the government's instruction, Prof. Joseph was placed under suspension for a year. The police registered a case against him. He went into hiding, but after a couple of weeks he was arrested under Section 295 of the Indian Penal Code (for causing communal hatred). He was later released on bail.

Kochi inspector-general of police, B. Sandya, told ucanews.com that an Islamic extremist group is suspected of the crime and have arrested four people and impounded a vehicle.
She said the attackers used the vehicle to block Joseph's car before dragging the professor from his vehicle and chopping off his right hand. The attackers then threw the hand away before fleeing.
Church-managed Newman College in Thodupuzha had suspended Joseph, its Malayalam professor, on March 25 for allegedly preparing a question paper with insulting references to the Prophet Muhammad.
St. Joseph Sister Mary Stella said the assailants attacked her brother with an axe and swords.

Her brother had been threatened three times following the question paper row, she added.
