Partitioning Afghanistan

Former US ambassador to India Robert Blackwill has suggested a very useful solution to the Afghan quagmire - the partitioning of Afghanistan into North and South, with the US continuing to defend the North. This would leave Pak and its Taliban stuck with only the Pathan areas of Southern Afghanistan under their control. The result of this capping would effectively cause Pathans on both sides of the Durand Line to reunify - a de facto consolidation of Pashtunistan.
The Afghan Eelam would automatically pull the province of its nearby neighbor into a merger, due to their natural ethnic affinity. Pak would lose control over the Pathans, and its days as a unified state would soon be numbered.

Let's hope the Atlanticists that infest the US State Dept don't scuttle this idea.
