Modi Govt's LED Bulb Campaign

The Modi govt has had the brilliant idea of buying huge numbers of LED bulbs at a huge discount, to sell them to the masses at low-cost. This campaign will reduce power demand during peak periods by 25000MW - a huge reduction in energy consumption:

Calling for a "people's movement" on this, Modi said conservation of energy was much easier than generation, and as a symbolic gesture replaced one bulb in his office with a LED bulb.

The more India can indigenously manufacture such energy-saving products, the better. Natural market forces could ensure that such energy-conserving and money-saving technologies are quickly made available to Indian consumers.
