nuke is not the answer for india

mar 15th, 2011 CE

despite all the bullshit from the UPA, nuke energy isn't going to solve india's energy crisis, and it is a huge albatross.

it is also truly dangerous and dirty.

See how competent india's preparations are for crisis: 1. Mumbai 11/26 2. Kandahar 3. Latur quake. Be worried, very worried

And if there's a natural diaster like in japan, no doubt of chernobyl x 100: millions will be exposed to radiation given no emergency mgmt

Nuke reactors are forever. Contamination/waste in properly functioning reactors will last 10000 years. Terrorists' dream

'nuke deal': major hoax. Pay 100billion to endanger nation, create dependency on uranium suppliers, still find 93pc energy elsewhere!
 rajeev srinivasan
In india, in the most wildly optimistic forecast by UPA only 7 pc of energy will come from nukes ever. Worth risking millions of lives?
 rajeev srinivasan
Amazing. Hiroshima-type human catastrophe in japan, but 80 pc of commentary is only on nukes. Esp by gung-ho nuke fans

Indeed. India needs to make far more efficient use of its most abundant natural resource: water.

According to the Earthquake hazard zoning of India, Jaitapur comes under Zone III.

Effects of nuclear radiation seen in Rawatbhata, India has raised further questions on effects of radiation on health of people staying near nuclear power plants. The rise in deformities seen in Rawatbhata is alarming.

20 years, 92 quakes: Ground trembles beneath Jaitapur's feet.

If nuclear fission is not the answer, then nuclear fusion without a fissile trigger has to be sometime in the future. When coal and crude run out, it's hard to imagine what can sustain 7 billion people.

Agree with you but BJP ganged up with UPA and pulled a bait-and-switch during the vote on the Nuclear Civil Liability bill. They claimed they would oppose it and went through the charade of a debate and then voted for it.

Emphasis should be on reducing demand for power with better building designs. Limiting energy-intensive exports like Aluminium (and to some extent, Steel) will help.
Solar thermal is a big opportunity. Cattle powered generators are worth pursuing. This has a potential of 60,000+ MW in India.
