i have personally never seen an indian-american stand-up comic routine. any of you seen this aziz ansari?
i have seen some indo-british comedy on tv, it wasn't bad. i understand a show called 'the kumars' is pretty hilarious -- with a raunchy/loose-tongued old woman (reminds me of the old hit show 'golden girls') -- but i have never watched it.
however, i find most comedy shows in india to be disgustingly low-brow, loud slapstick -- benny hill must be their god. is there someone in india that comes close to dave allen, or woody allen, or richard pryor? i have had problems seeing indian comedy in chennai or bangalore because i don't know enough tamil or kannada or hindi to appreciate the digs they are making at film stars in those languages, or to appreciate the puns etc. the malayalam comedy i have seen is garbage. strange, considering that there have been brilliant humorists in the language -- like the sublime kunchan nambiar or the subtle sanjayan: uproariously funny people.
anyway, here's the andhra-origin hari in the US, making a go of it.
there are some indians on twitter who *are* funny. i am not sure they intend to be, though.
on second thoughs, indians *are* funny. like the solemn prime minister claiming with a straight face that he didn't know this, he didn't know that, and he didn't know anything at all. he would be uproarious if it weren't for the black comedy of people dying because of all the things he doesn't know.

I've watched this Hari Kondabalu person on Comedy Central - he was moderately funny, too stiff.
Aziz Ansari, on the other hand is hliarious - there is a lot of crude, sexual humour as well - but he is definitely a riot.
If you appreciate Hindi - there is a flick called "Phas Gaye Obama"
that I thought was funny. It's about a broke NRI facing foreclosure going to India to sell off ancestral property - and ending up held for ransom.
If you appreciate some Urdu as well - a flick called "Tere Bin Laden" is good. It's about some C grade TV journalists in Pakistan who use a Bin Laden lookalike to claim that they've captured the head of Al Qaeda!
I'm not a huge fan of Bollywood -
but these two flicks were *surprisingly* humorous.
