Escaping lover's wife, woman falls off from 5th floor balcony
An alleged extramarital affair has shattered the lives of three IT professionals in Pune, with one likely to be crippled for life.
A 27-year-old software engineer was injured critically on Saturday evening after she tried to get down from a fifth floor balcony using a bed sheet.
According to the police, she was being helped by her close friend and colleague Rinosh Chacko to surreptitiously climb down to the fourth floor after Chacko's wife made an unexpected arrival at her residential complex in Kharadi.
Police said that Chacko was helping his friend climb down with the help of a bed sheet tied to a water pipe from the fifth floor, when suddenly the woman's hands slipped and she fell to the ground.
Dr Sachin Gandhi, consultant neurosurgeon of Ruby Hall Clinic treating the woman, told DNA that she has suffered a severe head injury. He said it has caused bleeding within the skull, besides total paralysis of the arm, leg and trunk on the left side of the body.
Chacko's wife, also an IT engineer, panicked when her husband did not open the door despite repeatedly ringing the doorbell for nearly two hours. The police said that Chacko attempted to lower his friend from the fifth floor to apparently hide her presence from his wife.
On Sunday, Chacko's wife lodged an FIR at the Yerawada police station against Chacko for allegedly harassing her. The police lodged a separate case against him for endangering the life of a woman and arrested him on Monday. He was later released on bail.
Senior inspector at Yerawada police station, Deepak Sawant said that the couple's relationship turned sour after the wife found vulgar SMSes on her husband's phone, leading to frequent quarrels.
"Chacko started harassing his wife for dowry and threatened divorce. This prompted her to go to her father's place in Kolkata but she returned on March 19," Sawant said.
