the flawed design of GE's boiling water reactor in fukushima: is GE liable?

mar 16th, 2011 CE

as brahma chellaney points out, the OLDEST reactor of this type still active is at tarapur, india.

and the spent fuel rods which are the problem, well, tarapur has 40 years of spent rods like this that a) the yanks won't allow india to reprocess, and b) won't reprocess itself. these rods, i understand, are stored in tarapur. ye gads!

this is why i believe GE has liability, force majeure notwithstanding.

The operator should be liable, not the firm that produced parts. The decision to USE flawed design is the operator's. India should not be liable, but Manmoron Singh has signed the Convention on Supplemental Compensation. This means that Indians will be liable for the nuclear disaster in Japan. I believe if Japan is part of CSC, India's share would be a few million dollars.
