someone called vijay prashad a khmer rouge. an interesting term, considering that:
a) vijay prashad is a christist
b) we now know of the increasing nexus between christist and communist terrorists
c) a lot of erstwhile khmer rouge terrorists have become christists
this guy is doing a lot of damage and the vatican must be pleased with him. i saw a recent survey of indian college professors' and scientists' views on religion, conducted by, yes, you guessed it, trinity college, which i assume is some cow-shed tutorial college much like the allahabad agricultural university [sic] which gave valson thampu his miraculous phd in how to bugger farmyard animals quietly. naturally, the questions in the survey were very leading: along the lines of 'aren't you embarrassed about your belief in hinduism'? 'don't you think christism is a far superior religion?' etc.
since it appears that samuel reddy is putting out contracts to bump off hindu andhra pradesh students in the US, it might be interesting to see whether the funds for that are coming from trinity college as well.

The attack by Vijay Prashad below is an interesting attempt to
demonize an NRI and undermine her appointment by Obama. The motives
are interesting. The Old South Asianism's power base in US politics
has eroded, with the American pragmatism seeing India as opportunity
and solution provider, rather than as basket case of human rights
abuses. So the Old South Asianists feel left out and abandoned in this
new discourse on India, because their training on "caste, cows, dowry"
seems obsolete. As more westerners experience India directly, there is
less dependence on the old middlemen sitting in academic cocoons,
dishing out weird exotica to feed the white folks' fear of dangerous
savages and wild places. It is interesting how very indirect links in
her background get highlighted by Prashad, and sensationalized to
produce the classical guilt-by-association profile. Indian so-called
"tribal" religions get described by him as "Christian and animism"
with Hinduism as the alien oppression -- good for Prashad's Christian
support base. Obama is trying to create a new liberalism, and it
remains to be seen to what extent he will be allowed to break loose
from past shakles of the ideologues. It will be Old Liberalism vs. New
Liberalism. (Rajiv Malhotra)

The Many Faces of Sonal Shah: Obama's Indian
By VIJAY PRASHAD
Barack Obama has appointed John Podesta to run his transition. During
the lean years of the Bush administration, Podesta, native of Chicago,
ran a shadow cabinet for the Democrats. Since 2003, the home of this
government-in-exile has been the Center for American Progress (CAP), a
liberal think tank set-up to rival the Heritage Foundation and the
American Enterprise Institute. The money, about $10 million per year,
came from George Soros, Peter Lewis, Marion Sandler and Herb Sandler –
the main liberal financiers. CAP has its set of fellows. Many of them
worked in some capacity within the Clinton administration (where
Podesta was Chief of Staff). There are hard-nosed people like Rudy
deLeon (who went through every Defense secretariat in the Clinton
years) and Jeanne Lambrew (who served as a health analyst in the
National Economic Council during the waning years of the Clinton
administration). But there are also the fresh faces, young people who
came to Washington with glowing references from the Ivy League. Others
marched over from the Hill, after serving various terms as staff
members for the Democratic warhorses. They have been groomed to be
part of the next Democratic administration. Their hibernation is over.
Obama has called.

Part of the usual suspects gang! Nothing new in what he says.
this is bound to happen. sonal shah's only mistake is to be a Hindu, a mistake she has no intention of rectifying. witin the US, it is possible to play realpolitik. if it is a matter of protecting the interests of Hindu-Americans, not to be painted as knuckle dragging bigots, or terrorists and worse, and have their children brought up to hate their own traditions, and that can be attained only by allying with a certain party, so be it. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of FL 18th district is a generous supporter of Hindu concerns and Republican. She has been elected by a thumping majority this time, no doubt thanks to many of her Hindu constituents. So these things do matter. For a miniscule community like the Hindu-Americans ours is not simply a fight for recognition but dignity as Hindus and not merely as lawyers or doctors. That is not over and will not be as long as venomous and vicious smear merchants like Vijay Prashad go unchallenged.
