The Economist speaks to America's rising self-doubts, and de-bunks them. I agree, the US is facing some rough reckoning, but it's not out by a long shot.
The loss of self-confidence that US people are boud to suffer would be the most serious damage done by economic foolhardiness which glorifies unresrtained borrowing and unsustainable consumption.
US became what became due to an undying optimism of its populace and consitutionally minimized role of state. Now that state is the new Messiah, and consittution has been chucked out of the window, it is a free for all (pun intended).
