varsha bhosle: Asha Bhosle's daughter in ICU

sep 9, 2008

i am really sorry to hear about varsha's medical problems. i spoke with her last a few months ago, when she told me about some surgery she had that had not gone well, and she was in pain. but she was her usual feisty self then, and was talking about cuisine. she wanted me to locate a traditional kerala 'man-chatti' -- a clay cooking pot -- which was used for cooking on the traditional wood-burning fires.

MUMBAI: Legendary singer Asha Bhosle's daughter Varsha was early on Tuesday admitted to hospital here after she took an overdose of medicine.

Varsha, 51, was rushed to the Jaslok Hospital at 4.30 am by a family member.

"It is not a suicide attempt. She took an overdose of some medicine. She is now in the ICU," a senior police officer said.

WHYYYYYYYY??? The firebrand rediff columnist of the late 90s & early 00s ends up like this? Why? How? Come to think of it something happened in late 2002/ early 2003, that might have led to this. That was when Varsha stopped writing on Rediff, and Rajeev disappeared for a bit. No proper explanation for both events, but when Rajeev came back to Rediff, his columns were not the same :-( ........

This is really saddening.Sincerely hoping she recovers fast.

She herself wrote , rediff is a front for leftists like ASHA, Sabrang whatever. She was held out threats by marxist goons and hence stopped writing.

To me , the unkindest cut of all came from someone like nagesh bhushan ( if I recall right) who had phrased it:

"..she was (sic)booted out ".

I admire her for her lateral thinking , pluck and lack of fanaticism.
If you could give me her tel no or email I would be grateful.Like her mother Asha , I am sure she would overcome her troubles.

Her articles were great and I did not know that she was Asha ji's daughter.

May she recover soon.

(Here is an excerpt from her email

" Actually, you've got my so-called ploy all wrong. However, I don't expect guys with your mentality to understand that.

You'll be pleased to know that you 'secularists' have a successful and time-tested way of tackling free speech: I am no longer writing for Rediff since its top honcho, Ajit Balakrishnan (also involved with discredited SABRANG communications Communalism Combat , ), finds me 'very inflammatory.' That's surely something to rejoice over. Yes, please do post my comments on your newsgroup. "

Hi Rajeev,

have been in reading your posts regularly.

The news about Ms Varsha Bhonsale is saddening. It is irony of Kaliyug that dharmic indian patriots are being hounded and troubled, while termites go on a further damaging spree.

Please convey our best wishes and regards to Ms Bhonsale and her family.

Sad to see a firebrand journalist like her being in trouble! India needs more people like her. Praying that she recovers fast,

Great to know atleast one person on earth is in touch with her. Please convince her to start writing again, when she gets back on her feet.

Even if her articles are for paying memebers only, there are enough of her fans out here to to sustain a buissness model, even if she is not associated with any major media organisation.

Once again wishing she has a speedy recovery.
