Mauritia - the Lost 'Kumarikandam'?

Scientists have used advanced measurement techniques to detect and discover what appears to be evidence of a continent which once stretched from Madagascar to the tip of Southern India, which has been dubbed 'Mauritia':

This bears a superficial resemblance to the old Tamil legends of a 'lost continent of Kumarikandam' which was supposed to have been a cradle of Tamil civilization. Perhaps the story is just a myth, but the recent discovery will no doubt give believers something to chew on.
