India's Supreme Court has overturned a 59-year old law supported by trade unions which bans women from being makeup artists in the film industry:

It's amazing that such a law has been able to survive all this time until now. It shows the destructive power of trade unions, which are always portrayed as defenders of workers rights by so-called "liberal" left-wing activists, but which are really just bastions of cronyism.
