In 2000 and 2002, the autism estimate was about 1 in 150 children. In 2006, the number was 1 in 110, and the newest data -- from 2008 -- suggests 1 in 88 children have autism.

I'm no doctor or a scientist, but my gut feeling is this must be related to all the canned food and chemicals that we are consuming.
Autism is not a single "disease" or medical condition, but encompasses a spectrum of real or imagined afflictions. For example, Asperger's Syndrome, classified as "autism", is extremely mild and almost unnoticeable. The perceived "increase" in incidence could be because of an expansion of the definition. It could also be due to increased "diagnosis".
There were some studies showing that autism is more prevalent in children whose fathers are 40 and above. The mothers age did not seem to matter. However over 35 year old mothers seem to have children with higher incidence of downs syndrome.
